Synonym: Activité de Brêche
- High voltage fast activity in the region of skull defect
- The skull is a high frequency and high voltage filter
- Mostly in beta range (beta rhythm)
- Spiky and sharp appearance
- Occurs only over skull defects
- Abruptly diminish beyond the margins of the defect
- Better identified with bipolar montage
- Clinical significance: sign of bone abnormality, not an EEG abnormality
- Presence of abnormal slowing or low amplitude within the breach effect’s region may indicate cerebral pathology
- In rare cases skull metastasis can also cause breach rhythm
Breach rhythm right centroparietal with abnormal slowing right temporal (double banana)
